Tracking and fingerprint protection
Mullvad Browser is developed by Mullvad with the Tor Project to reduce tracking and browser fingerprinting. It uses protections such as letterboxing to make users look more alike, includes uBlock Origin, and starts in private browsing mode. Cookies are not kept between sessions.
Browser and VPN are separate
The browser is free and open source, whether or not you use Mullvad VPN. It does not connect through the Tor network. You can use it with a trustworthy VPN or without one, but the browser alone does not mask your IP address. A VPN service has its own costs and conditions.
Platforms and everyday trade-offs
Mullvad Browser is available for supported Windows, macOS and Linux systems, not smartphones. The provider advises against adding extensions because they can make your browser fingerprint more distinctive. Firefox Sync is not supported, and staying logged into websites between sessions is deliberately unavailable.
Updates and privacy expectations
Mullvad says browser telemetry has been removed. The browser still makes outgoing connections for updates, DNS and protection lists. Privacy protections can affect how websites look or work; test your everyday sites and keep the browser updated. These features do not guarantee complete anonymity.
