Pixelfed is an open-source federated social network for image sharing using ActivityPub protocol. Unlike centralized social networks, Pixelfed enables decentralized image sharing across multiple servers. Different Pixelfed servers can communicate enabling interaction between accounts on different instances. Multiple large European Pixelfed servers operate the infrastructure. Pixelfed emphasizes privacy and user control compared to centralized alternatives.
