What is OpenAssistant?

OpenAssistant brought together community contributors to collect, rank and annotate conversations for training language models. This profile covers LAION’s project, whose official repository states that it is finished. OpenAssistantGPT is a separate website-chatbot product.

Available resources

The final OASST2 conversation dataset is published on Hugging Face under Apache 2.0. The code repository also uses Apache 2.0. Researchers and developers can inspect these resources to study instruction following and human feedback, subject to the license for each resource.

Practical limitations

Treat OpenAssistant as a completed research project. It is not a current managed service with a support plan or guaranteed chatbot availability. Running code or models requires technical work and computing resources. Assess maintenance, model behavior and data handling for your intended deployment.
